Basic pet shops tend to have Platys. I know both my local Petco & PetSmart has them.

Petco provides a basic care sheet for them (you have to have Adobe Reader to view it, I think):
http://www.petco.com/caresheets/fish/Platys.pdf

If you're unable to view that, here's some basics:
- Water temp should be between 72-82 degrees.
- Feed once a day, no more than fish can eat in 3-5 minutes.
- Frozen, flaked, and dried are all acceptable.
- Provide plants for refuge.

You can find platys anywhere, they usually cost from about 2-5 dollars. They need a varied diet that includes both protein and vegetable matter. I don't know why you say tank size info will piss you off, the only reason someone would suggest a tank size would be for the health of your fish. Keeping them in a too-small tank or overstocking will shorten their lives and make them unhealthy. Just FYI.
