I don't think it really matters, either way, unless you have Issues about having an enema. If you have Issues, don't do it. If you don't care, do whatever your doctors want. I kind of liked the feeling of security that I'd already been cleaned out a bit. But they did the enema like 15 hours before the birth, so I'm not sure if it did any good from the pooping on the table standpoint. Pretty much voo-doo magic, from my point of view.

I think what your asking (if I am correct) is when you do go into labor and get admitted to the hospital- you wanna know if you should ask for an enema so you don't poo while your on the table and pushing. Well my answer is WHY THE HECK NOT!! Im going to ask for one, the last thing I need is for my poo to come out into the world with my child. At that time, your in a safe medical setting and an enema is not going to hurt you!! Go for it!!

No, it's really not neccessary. The onyl reason that there would be to have that done would be so that you didn't poop on the nurse or doctor while you are pushing. That is something that is very typical and happens to most people, even if they have had an enema or not.

You can if you want. I know a few women who did, just because they were afraid and embarrassed of it possibly happening.

If it would make you feel better, go ahead. It's all about you being the most comfortable you need to be anyway.

But, to be honest, if it happens, it happens. These nurses and doctors have probably seen 2 million poopies while giving birth. Ain't no big deal to them anyway. They discreetly and quickly get rid of it, like it never happened.

Best of Luck to You!!

No - it used to be pretty much standard practice, but after two labour and deliveries myself, I can tell you from experience that your body does an excellent job of clearing itself out before the main event.

Some women still have a BM while pushing, but most of the time, you will spend plenty enough time on the toilet earlier in labour. :)

I tried to induce using castor oil, which essentially does the same thing. I don't think it brought on labor, but I did feel better knowing I wouldn't poo on the table in font of every one.

No, I woulnd't. It used to be standard procedure but it's been shown to not prevent you going at delivery anyhow. I was given one with my first 13 years ago and the all it did was make me miserable and less able to relax to deal with labor.
