Plasma is the fourth state of matter and occurs at extremely high temperatures. We don't experience plasma state in our everyday existence.

An ion is a charged particle. If an atom has an extra electron, then it's a negative ion. If it's missing an electron, then it's a positive ion. Normally, it's neutral.

Wikipedia shows about 10 different plasmas. One is the stuff inside a neon sign. thats plasma inside there. Its like a gas so we call it gaseous but we dont actually call it "a gas". its a cloud of ions that are gaseous. we call particles that are electrically charged an ion. dry solid table salt is not an ion but if you put it in water it breaks up into ions. NaCl becomes
Na cations and Cl anions when dropped into water. Cations are positive ions. Anions are negative ions. The particles making up a gas can be made ionic by doing something to that gas that gives those particles an electrical charge.
