every other time with the water going down someimes and staying in the bowl sometimes.

I checked inside the tank and see that sometimes water in it when flushed only goes down half way and then shuts off and starts filling again. when I hold the flush handle down for many seconds longer than one normally would, it seems to flush everytime.

Other than holding it down so long for it to fully release all the water in the tank into the bowl, how can I fix this?

The ball floats up very high in the bowl but the problems seems to be the empty hole closing too quickly.

Please help as I am single with no one to help me know how to do plumbing things.

II was going to buy a draino for toilets but does this seems unnecessary now or will it still help.

Is the problem in the tank or in the bowl and pipes?

after flushing instead of the water in the toilet tank going down to about a half inch in the tank, it is going to one half the tank (8 or 9 inches) and then shutting and this is causing it to not fully flush..how can I fix this..it is a plastic mechanism in the tank

The tank is not supposed to empty all the way when it flushes. It should go down to between 1/4 and 1/2 empty then close and start filling up again. If you feel like you want it to flush with more water, they make a little float to attach to the flapper chain, just above the flapper about an inch or so, and that will cause it to float longer till the water levels falls low enough to where it finally close. You should be able to get them at Lowe's or Home Depot and they can show you or tell you how to install them. It's really simple.

You have a water level problem. Look at the inside of your tank you will see a water level line. Does the water fill to this Leve? Apparently not. You must adjust your float mechanism accrodingly to fill to this mark. If you have a ball float then adjust the screw at the end of the arm. If you have a fluidmaster then adjust the height of the fluidmaster up and down movement. All else you will have to adjust the chain on the flapper when you push the lever down to make the flapper flip up all the way.

Look inside the tank. There is a chain/strap connecting the handle to the flapper. Adjust the chain shorter. This pulls the flapper all the way up and it will stay there until the water is released "almost" fully.

You can make your own "delay" float out of polyethylene foam (that firm springy foam that some items are shipped in), or even styrofoam can be used if you're handy and can get it attached just above the ballcock so that it won't slip upwards when the tank fills.

your problem seems to be in the that the flap valve (which is the part that plugs the drain in your tank) is topo heavy they can get water logged and get heavier than usuall, replace it its very easy to do
