i.e. my oponent moves a bishop taking one of my pieces but at the same time im being put in check by his rook, is this legal? thanks!

Yes, that's a legal move.
It's a tactical move that will probably cost you a piece.
for you either have to move your king out of check, block the
open line of the rook, or take the rook.
I think it's called discovered check in English, here in Holland
it's called aftrekschaak.
I presume your opponents bishop blocked the open Rook line
before he moved the piece.

Yes. In this position (the one you mentioned) the bishop moves out of the way of the rook, and allowing the rook to be discovered onto the king. Previously, you were not in check, as the bishop was in the way, but now, with it gone, you are in check.

Yes, it's very legal and a very good move on his part. It's the kind of move we all should be trying to create on the chessboard. You should get Susan Polgar's book, Chess Tactics For Champions. She does a beautiful job of showing how to create such opportunities for yourself on the chessboard. My game improved greatly after having only read the first 20 pages!

Any time the king is threatened with being taken in the next move it is check. It does not matter how this condition occurred.
