How do people sit through a soccer games? quite well, thank you.
Now if you could help me understand why so many alleged sports fans can like and appreciate a variety of sports (football to hockey to baseball to golf, etc), yet when it comes to soccer the mood turns sour and almost violently antagonistic. I mean, some folks don't like golf, but you never hear them screaming and carrying on about how horrible it is. The same with other sports - but when it comes to soccer, let the vile diarrhea-of-the-mouth begin.
I don't want to hear the lame excuse that there is not enough scoring (baseball and/or hockey have long been low scoring affairs). I don't want to hear that it is boring/not enough action (give me a break . . . baseball in nearly unwatchable with all the delays, and football is five seconds of action followed by a minute of standing around). Don't get me wrong - I am a sports fan, and can appreciate most sports (I have a tough time with those that are based on judging - skating, gymnastics, etc.).
What is it about soccer that creates such animosity? Is it the jingoistic view that since it wasn't "invented" in the USA, it is inherently evil? Is it that xenophobic fear that since the USA is not the "top dog" that we can't or won't appreciate it? Is it the fact that it is an easy target because it appears 'everyone' hates it and you're just "stupid" to even like something that the masses (which quite often are asses) frown upon? Is it because folks can get a quick laugh if they make fun of it?
Seriously, help me understand what the issue is? I've heard you rant on about how soccer sucks, and would like to understand why. No, you won't change my opinion, because I enjoy soccer. I would just like to understand the hatred.

You're an idiot. According to you, football, futbol, baseball, and baseketball suck. And if you think those suck and are boring, I'm sure you have the same opinion for hockey, tennis, and golf. People like you are so dumb. People obviously watch them because THEY LOVE THE SPORT! You don't need a bunch of scoring for a game to be amazing. Sure a few games are more boring than others, but most of the games aren't boring at all. Go watch a soap opera you dumbass. Ok, because the OP is an idiot, doesn't mean the rest of us are idiots, you ******* idiots. He doesn't watch soccer, basketball, football, or baseball, so stop trying to make up these stupid jokes about our sports(although watching basketball sucks). And yes, I'm pretty sure most of us know what Lithuania is, so stop trying to bash Americans, because although we know there is a world out there, we're the best. **** you all, **** the original poster, you all blow. If I don't want to seem hypocritical? How am I being hypocritical if I actually enjoy watching the sports and playing them? You obviously just aren't a person who like to watch or play sports, you have to have a love and passion for the game, you have to get excited about it, you have to understand the game. If you think soccer players are just running back and forth with a ball, then you're dead wrong. You obviously don't understand the game or the strategy, all you know is that they have to kick a ball in the net. That explanation is pretty damn good for you, idiot.

It spassion. This sport has been played for decades and decades. Its a custom for European countries, and the latin americas. and for what somebody said about the alcohol, no people dont get drunk cuz they are bored and so they fight. They fight because they love the game so much that it over powers them and they loose control when the team that generations and generations of a family have followed, dont perform at their fullest. All the acting and whining is just part of the sport, its what makes it so emotional and envolving. its what makes it so great. You cant tell me that running back and forth for 2 hours with a sprint pace is stamina you cant admire. The condition of these people, their tactics and grace that players like messi have. That has to be something to admire. I think that when people start to realize this the game will become more popular.

reminds me of the episode in the simpsons when Homer gives up alcohol. everyone is downing the beers at a baseball game and homer is like "i never realised how boring this game was"
a good chunk of the world's population doesn't seem to have trouble sitting through a game of soccer and alot of them couldn't watch whatever sport you like.it's about as hard for non US person to get into the NFL and superbowl. ive tried watching it but i cant cos i'm not familiar with the culture that surrounds the sport.
today australia has it's biggest game of the year in a sport called Australian Rules football. now that is somethin i can watch because i'm constantly surrounded by it even though i am not a fan.
it's akin to films . if you have no interest in it you aren't not likely to watch the whole thing compared to someone who loves the subject matter

Just work on your attention span. Soccer is just two continuous 45 minute periods, and periods in American sports are considerably shorter. Besides, there's so much more in soccer than goals. You just need to learn to appreciate that. I do have to agree, these drama queens in the men's game should be banned for life.

hey corinthian,
how do i explain it to you if you dont allow emails.....dope.
the sport of soccer is perfection in its purest form. but pros spend more time on the turf pretending to be hurt, than any sport on the planet. 99% of them are up and playing again after the yellow card has been issued. golf is boring as hell, and nobody complains because its a given. nascar....same thing.....
soccer is popular worldwide, so somehow human beings enjoy watching "athletes" pretend to be hurt.....i dont get it

Haha i love it when Americans ask that.
Over here people get really drunk during games and just fight at the end with opposing fans, whilst hurling abuse at the referee during the game.
They don't really remember the game just how many police officers it took to arrest them (i have seen this first hand haha)
That is why America doesn't get football (soccer) because they're the only country that watch it sober besides Brazil!
Stick to watching your version of football, it's a lot better (I'd get stabbed for saying that out loud over here)
Peace...

probably by downing loads of alcohol. isn't that how they do it in Europe? If MLS wants to attract more interest in its game, they need to sell more alcohol. Thats the only thing that'll make guys running around in the grass seem interesting.
Thats why you always see fans fighting at soccer games in Europe. They are so bored they have to entertain themselves.
