Who knows why? You're just throwing away your vote there. No one votes independent!

Being independent means a lot in a political system.
If a political leader runs for a public office independently he would possibly carry his own platform and his own ideas compared to those trapped in a political party.
The fear with political parties is that you are bound to carry the idiosyncracies of the group and not being able to move or do campaign freely.
It is neither pro or against the present government. It is not even a political mediocrity but rather it is more on poltical freedom and free will to carry on public aspirations.

Nope. I became an independent this year, because I disagree with the Dems, on some things, and I disagree with the Rebubs on others. I will vote for the person I think best suited to run the country as I see fit.

No It is not gutless. I just do not want to appear next to someone I can't stand. Why would I affliate myself with any party or person who does not represent me?

I became independent when I left the GOP during Iran/Contra and the rise of the moral majority...considering the last 7 years, I was lucky to leave when I did.

Because I'm tired of the elephants and donkeys getting nothing done. I hope more independents run and people wise up that politicians only want to be re-elected, so they vote the way the money they get wants them to vote.

not gutless at all. the two major parties both suck ***, so why would i vote for them? the libertarian party is closest to my views, and i'm tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. either way, you're voting for evil and i can't in good conscience vote for any republicans any more. screw the two majors.

To split the vote between the Republican and Democrat parties. Usually, it's a Republican that votes independent and thus allowing the Democrats to win.
