Class envy is one of the basic liberal talking points. Most people consider themselves poor or lower middle class. They find it OK if Democrats promise to raise taxes on the rich. The lower groups don't pay any federal tax, so they are not bothered by tax increases and do not benefit from tax rate decreases.

Actually, I think the tax system we have in place right now is very fair. There are a lot of loopholes for those who can afford to set up offshore dummy corporations and the like- I'd like to see some of those closed up, but otherwise it's not so bad. Rich people benefit the most from our free market society, and it's not unfair that they should pay the most back into it.

Rabble Rouser, you go to work and give them your paycheck.
The poor people here are the richest poor in the world. why can't they work. All of us would willingly help the disabled and the elderly.
The rich pay plenty more than their share and they have chairitable foundations.
Penelope has done her homework, and she is right.
I say a flat tax for everyone making over $36000.00 a year
How about it?
Reduce taxes and we have more jobs for people to pay taxes.
Edit: The breaks might be for corporations to expand and provide more jobs, and thus decrease unemployment.
P.S. I am NOT rich!

As Penelope points out, the top 10% pay about 65% of the taxes. However, they control about 90% of the wealth in this country. See the disparity? That leaves the middle class to make up the difference. And since the middle class has to spend a higher percentage of their earnings on things such as housing, gas and food, they are hit even worse.

A more important question... with over 400 Billionaires in this country and people literally starving in the streets, how can we rest at night?
I just get tired of all the latte-swilling, hummer-driving "Buffys" complaining about how hard they have it...
awww.... poor them...

It's funny...when I ask the looney left to define "rich", it's usually anybody who makes more than themselves. "It's just not fair" I heard one leftist lib cry...
