This is John Edwards on MTV/Myspace.
“We cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem. And the idea that we can keep incarcerating and keep incarcerating — pretty soon we’re not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They’re all going to be in prison or dead. One of the two.”
It really makes me sick that the party who is supposed to fight for minority rights, think that African Americans can only become criminals.

You guys defending this obvious racism are cracking me up.
So it is okay that he said "ALL", What about the African American men in college, and supporting their family's.
You people make me sick. You do not even recognize your own racism.

And you think that John Edwards speaks for the whole party?
Please reexamine your assessments before saying comments like that.

Here is the best part: Democrats helped to put many of those minorities in prison. They pander to minorities, and encourage them to be victims by race baiting - like Nifong did. And Democrats block school vouchers, which could help some of those kids have a better chance - however the teachers unions are more important than those kids. And the minorities keep asking for more of that - voting for democrats 90% of the time, every time. Simply amazing.

Although African American males are disproportionately represented in the prison system not all African American males are in jail...nor does it mean that there is an upward trend that could lead to all (100%) of them being in jail or dead.
Edwards obviously did not know his facts...nor the fundamentals of statistics.
All young people (regardless of race) perform to expectations. Ask yourself if you are part of the problem by expecting young African Americans (and Latinos) to commit crimes and go to jail. What would happen if you expected them to go to college? It couldn't hurt....

The way you phrased your question tells me you're not interested in hearing anything that doesn't reinforce your closed-minded view of the world.
First of all, the conservatives and republicans seem to have a near-monopoly on racist remarks. Just in today's news are the comments Bill O'Reilley made about dining in a Harlem restaurant. He was amazed they weren't swinging from the light fixtures like apes. Do I have to remind you of the comments made by George Allen last fall? Or those of Trent Lott?
Now as to John Edwards, his comments were anti-racist. They were referring to the fact that Afro-Americans dominate the prison population, and that the current trend, if continued, would result in all of them being locked up.
You're welcome to harbor all the ignorant attitudes and thoughts you desire, but it would serve you well to open your mind and allow in new ideas and thinking.

I guess because the liberal media types and the Al Sharpton's and Jesse Jackson's of this world support kooks like John Edwards.
Now if a conservative/Republican said the same thing as did Edwards, he or she would be in deep **** with the libs, the media, Jackson and Sharpton.
Look what they did to Don Imus.

Because Democrats are smarter than Republicans and know how to avoid being tarred with the brush of racism.
Try listening to Inner City radio talk shows for a few hours each day for more than a month - you'll understand a lot more about what's going on.

I guess because people are so gullible. We have democrats painted as the party that promotes equality, but Governor Faubus of Arkansas, who stood in the door of Central High to bar the admission of black children was a Democrat. He moved out of the way when Eisenhower, a Republican, sent federal troops.

It's not racist, it's reality. Young African-Americans commit over 90% of the violent crime in America.

I suppose the GOP could have expressed that to the African American community, if any of the candidates had deemed it worth showing up to their debate.
