Personally, I love public libraries. I read so much that i would go broke if I had to buy all the books I read! My husband, daughter and I go the the library every weekend. We love that the one in our neighborhood has a huge children's reading room, and we spend at least 2 hours there every week.
I think libraries are a very wise investment!

Libraries are part of a traditional civilized society so they have to be supported, as are universities, hospitals, schools, churches, the planned building of cities, and so on.
Conservatives are not opposed to social spending, however they believe that government taxation and government direction of institutions is inherently a poor way to fund social benefits and believe private citizens should support these institiutions directly, and not necessarily supply funding via taxation. In fact many libraries, universities and other institutions receive large portions of their funding from private sources and some are not funded directly by taxation.

Because it is your first day, I would recommend business casual. Perhaps khaki or black slacks with a collared (button up or polo) shirt, and some nice shoes (not sneakers or combat boots). Once you get a feel as to what is more acceptable for your position, you can experiment with styles to fit your personal taste. If you are dealing with the public and want to be taken seriously, I would say a more conservative dress. If you are working with children or teenagers you may have more leeway in what you wear. Also, if you are thinking about career advancement, you may want to dress to impress. -cheers

They have no problem with them generally, so as long as such libraries do not possess any materail that would be deemed, in their view, "seditious" or "sexually deviant." All the Christian devotional crap is fine with them; throw in anything regarding teenage awareness of homosexuality issues and these cons would have a conniption fit. Oh the horrors! LOL

***It's no surprise that Tr!sh does not use the library, considering the blatant idiocy that she spews out on a regular basis. ***

Wise investment. Except most of them could use newer books more often... It's not like the people we typically complain about use them!

I like the library.
Much like police, education, 95% of roads, and fire coverage these are LOCAL and STATE programs that are legal in accordance with the constitution.
When you start talking about federal spending programs with no legal standing, that's when you start to upset libertarians.
Check out who pays for what, and all the "essential services" you can think of are going to be funded locally or by the states. Yet oddly, the states only collect a small fraction of the percentage in taxes that the federal government does.
When you understand why its O.K. for California or Massachusetts to have universal health care, and NOT O.K. for Washington D.C. to create a national plan, then you'll see the light. (hint: its in the foundation of our national laws, bill of rights, #10)

We use libraries a lot. A little knowledge can be dangerous, but a lot of knowledge is a good thing. Some even claim that knowledge is power.
Those who don't bother to use libraries are kind of like horses that you can lead to water, but can't make them drink.
"Steve C" evidently doesn't know squat about Medicare "D".

I'd be wary of anything a conservative says about libraries. They do have a rich tradition of burning books.

as long as a bleeding hearted liberal isn't using our tax dollars to bribe the poor to cast a vote for a liberal, I'm all for it. Libraries aren't a waste of money due to the benefit of a well-read population and so far the libs haven't been able to portray themselves as the inventors, sustainers and saviors of the library. That's a problem.
