-22 + (-16) = -38 is the Answer!.

same signs in addition---> just simply add and copy the sign
( -, - ) ( +, + )

Different signs in addition --> subtract and just get
the sign of the biggest number... ( -, + )
ex. (-18) + 11 = - 7

Adding a negative number is the same as subtracting
-22 + -16 = -22 -16 = -38

On number line start at zero and go 22 left and then 16 left. This takes you to 38 left.
Answer = - 38
