It depends on what country you are in and how stringent the laws and enforcement are there. In the U.S., it would be illegal. I am certain of this. The copyright owner has the sole right for derivative works (ie: crafts with professional logos). You can request permission of the copyright owner to bypass this, but will probably have to compensate them for it. The one exception to this is if the copyright has expired, which if owned by a corporation is after 95 years; while if owned by an individual would be the lifetime of the owner plus 70 years. Otherwise, you are liable for fines and possibly jail time depending on how good the attorney is for the other side.

Courts will also consider if this is for personal use versus for commercial gain.

The logo's for professional teams are copyrighted and trademarked. So any reproduction with out express permission for profit would be illegal.

The teams OWN the logo. Use without permission is illegal. Two of the biggest companies that will seek you out, if you are using their logo are Disney and Harley Davidson. Harley offers rewards in Biker magazines. Look for that little R in a circle and it means Registered.

I am acquainted with an attorney who practices trademark infringement cases. He has an assistant who searches E-bay from time-to-time looking for people illegally selling items with his clients' logos. If you get sued for trademark infringement and lose, it's my understanding that you can be liable for the plaintiff's attorney fees as well as your own. Not worth the risk, in my opinion.
