That really is the million dollar question.

I can't quite bring myself to say that Islam by its nature is evil. I've known too many very civilized, American muslims who left an extraordinary impression on me as good, decent, level-headed people, to some extent more than some fellow Christians I know. I am Catholic, keep in mind.

However, when I look at the face of Islam projected by such virulent hate coming from the middle east, I have to question even the most shining first impressions. Could my muslim friends have been at their core decent people who simply placed their faith in error? I don't buy that at all. It doesn't add up for me.

There's something else to consider. This war represents a conflict of cultures. One could argue that it's the remnant of the old world fighting the inevitable ascension of the new. This explains why American muslims by and large don't conduct themselves in such terrible ways. They've become civilized.

To this end, I don't think Islam is DIRECTLY to blame. I'm not quite sure who is to blame directly, except those who would conduct terrorist attacks with brainwashed suicide bombers.

Good question, and not an easy answer, if the answer even exists.

Terrorist attacks are done in the name of terror and protest. The people involved may proclaim that they are Islamic and doing it in the name of Allah, but it does not mean that Islam is a terrorist religion or what have you. It's like saying that Christians are all terrorists because of a group called the KKK who claimed to be strongly Christian decided to terrorize African Americans.

Just as the KKK did, the Jihadists get their Islamic lessons that are twisted and skewed for the special interests other than the religion of Islam and its teachings in the Qua-ran. Jesus does not tell us to terrorize people, like the Christians of the KKK did. But somehow they had the belief that Jesus did tell them this. How something like that can get so skewed happens? I do not know. I think something with fear, protest, distress has a lot to do with it. The KKK did not want African Americans to have the same rights as whites. Perhaps the Jihadists want the USA and Israel out of the Middle East, just as how colonists wanted Britain to leave them alone.

Both.

Islamic violence is a whole other species of violence, that, but for Islam, wouldnt exist.

Consider all the terrorists who have been described as "nice community people" by those who knew them. Does Bin Laden appear to have the personality of a Hitler or Manson? Not really. Islam takes people of any nature or dispostion, sells them on Jihad, and creates violence where none was destine to occur.

Neither.

They're done because of the oppressive practices of Western Europe and the U.S. over the last century, and the current crimes against humanity of the U.S. The single biggest cause of the last four years is our invasion, occupation, and destruction of Iraq.

BTW, over 99% of those who believe in Islam have never committed any terrorist attacks.

It's like accusing all Christians of murdering doctors.

Neither. They're simply using Islam as an excuse for terrorism.

i admire your perspectives. i think precisely an identical way, even even with the undeniable fact that i'm no longer a Muslim the two. I propose, what type of a loopy faith could condone killing of its very own followers by skill of its very own followers? the shown fact that Muslim terrorists can so unquestionably kill their very own Muslim brothers and sisters in the type of great scale vogue (merely see what's occurring in Pakistan now) could supply sufficient data to a sane techniques that they are hopelessly brainwashed and lunatic. @ Mourog 2: No verses of Quran and real hadiths of Muhammad helps the form of strikes they are winding up. they might twist verses to examine their time table, or take suggestions from fake hadiths, yet it is yet another tale. you may no longer carry the religion in charge for such lack of expertise and self-righteousness.

Not in the name of Islam, in the name of someone's very specific, egocentric, bigoted, openly hostile and perverted distortion of Islam.
