Yes. What would thanksgiving be without the Turkey and all the trimming. The stuffing and the home made gravy. It is the one time a year in which I can honestly say I get a good down to earth home cooked meal. Pumpkin pie and cool whip. Mashed potato's, salads. Fresh dinner rolls. I am not much of a cook . So we go to my mothers for thanksgiving. One year I volunteered to help out. I said I would bring the mashed potato's. Everyone thought that I was actually going to peal them and boil then. I made a couple boxes on instant potatoes thinking no one would notice. Wrong. Right away they new. So now I am not allowed to bring the potatoes. Cranberries also taste so good with turkey. Then you have the left overs. Cold turkey sandwiches on fresh buns with mayo. Or hot turkey commercials. I could go on and on. But I am very hungry and now I have turkey on the brain. HELP

I hate turkey, so we have ham. We have all the rest of the "traditional" stuff, too, except for green bean casserole. I don't like that either. We have sweet potato pie instead of pumpkin. People think it is pumpkin, but it is better tasting.

I cooked my first turkey dinner with my new husband last year. This year we are going a different direction with American cuisine and are cooking Soul Food; fried chicken or a picnic ham, greens, fried okra, black eyed peas, biscuits and gravy or cornbread, sweet potato pie or peach cobbler. Anyone want to come over?
