An award given anually to graduating high school seniors. Apparently there are only several thousand in existance, and few if any are available for purchase as none of their owners have died yet.

It is an item that one must find a buyer for. Several thousand is a lot. I have a Beal medal and it is silver, it is from 1897 and was given to a student for his grades in a grade school in the Bronx. His name in engraved on it. It took me sometime but I found out about it thanks to the NYC historical society as well as the main library. They were both very helpful and I did it all by email. there is only one engraved with the persons name and only 2 or 3 given out that year. So mine is very rare but I bought it for $5 at a flea market. It has at least $15 worth of silver in it. Most medals have no set value and one must find a buyer, it is easier these days to find that buyer due to on line auctions.
