The only logical thing to do is to wear a helmet. And about seat belt logic: if you don't wear it and fly out of the car you can very well hurt someone else in the process.

I was hit in the head by a bird once - almost knocked me off the bike. I have been hit in the head by large bugs several times which could have easily caused me to lose control without a helmet on. I have also been hit by debris - rocks, bolts, large hail....
I agree that wearing a helmet makes you much safer to yourself, to other riders/drivers, and is the only thing to do out of respect to the ones that love you. The latter are the ones that may suffer the most if you do not.
Of course, if no one loves you, maybe you should go for it, and not wear a helmet. You might be doing the rest of us a favor....

It wasn't the stone, or the lack of a helmet that makes someone drift into oncoming traffic, it is rider error! The fact is that the lack of a helmet does not make you more dangerous to anyone but yourself. The rock scenerio is very unlikely, and I tend to move right if I am hit by something. There is already a lot of information in previous questions on this.
Me, I wear my helmet, although not required to by law in my state. There are debates as to how helpful it is, but if it is ANY help, it's on!
No, I don't believe in helmet laws, Yes, I believe in helmets. Yes, they can be improved, no, they are not useless either!
Even a leather helmet may keep your brains from falling out of your fractured skull, and a broken hard helmet is better at holding you together than none!
I also believe the same for seat belts (except for children) No law needed, but you will be safer using it!

I've been riding motorcycles for 35 years and have never seen anyone get hit in the head with anything that made them lose control. This is some of the stupidest logic I have ever heard. If you go out at night and look up at the stars a meteorite could possibly hit you in the head, although the chances are certainly slim, it could happen. Maybe when you go out at night for some fresh air you should put your helmet on.Take a good look at your question and maybe you'll see how foolish you sound.

Might be for you.
I don't "drift". And certainly not into oncoming traffic.
I live across from a sandpit and deal with the gravel, small rocks, and everything else that comes off those dump trucks. Then I get stuck behind them on the main road at 50 mph.
June bugs and other large flying things hurt too. So what?
You wear a helmet if you want to. I'll make my choice every day, thank you.
As the saying goes, "If you can't stand the heat..."

Yes the helmet protects you from flying rocks. I would suggest you wear a helmet with a shatter proof lens. The helmet will not protect you in an accident because the weight of the helmet can actually snap your neck in a crash, but even without a helmet you don't have much of walking away from a crash. Also check with your local state laws. The helmet will help you keep control of your bike when hit by flying rocks.

Situation's moot for me, I live in a helmet mandatory state. But even before it was, I wore my helmet in all situations except:
when I wanted to warm my motorcycle up before an oil change by riding it around the block. I wish I could do that, still, sometimes.

yes people who drive cars should wear a helmet as 90% of injurys recieved in auto accidents are head injurys whereas only 22% of injurys recieved by cyclists in cycle accidents are head injurys. these are the actual accident statistics on a national average in the U.S. like it or not you cant change the truth! EVERYONE THAT HAS A HEAD SHOULD WEAR A HELMET WHEN TRAVELING IN A MOTOR VEHICLE.

Where are all these stones coming from? Do you guys tailgate gravel trucks? I got biffed in the face by some pretty good sized bugs before. It stung a bit but I never lost control one bit. I have life insurance, I have disability insurance. My choice does not affect you.

I always wear my helmet. I live in a no helmet required state. My head is too valuable to get scraped up.
