Apparently this is one of mankind's oldest professions, vile then.....and viler now.

No, I wouldn't say they're the best of humanity, but we've sadly got a lot worse among us. Some people kill for fun, others hurt children, there's a lot worse kinds of people in the world than mercenaries.

Well, they are really really really bad. But, part of a soldier's job is to do the same thing. If someone invades your country and starts raping your women, and killing your babies, perhaps receiving a paycheck to kill the invaders isn't so bad. Similarly, if you are on the payroll of an agency that identifies really bad people, that want to kill a lot of innocent people, and you are asked to kill someone who, being alive will succesfully detonate a tactical nuclear weapon in the middle of a major city, perhaps getting a paycheck for that is more justifiable.
The truth is that if you live in a society who's taxes go towards paying such individuals you should take ownership of these killings as it is being done with your money.
I would say the worst of the worst are those that kill for no reason other than personal gratification. Killing in self defense, or in a preemptive fassion is not quite the same thing.

Sorry but your question doesn't leave one much to work with.
Exterminators kill for a paycheck, as do butchers. I don't consider them the worst of humanity.
As for mandkind's oldest professions, do you mean the prehistoric hunter gatherers? I don'y consider them vile either.
I'll tell you who I consider vile, ignorant people with a one-view prospective.

If this is a question direted at our Military , how well do you sleep safely at night and have the freedoms that you have , maybe you would like to move to the Middle East or China

If they are killing people that need to be killed they probably aren't getting paid enough. If the whole country was full of wusses like you we would be speaking German right now and have a serious shortage of jews.

If your referring to our soldiers I think you should back up off them!!! I'm close friends with several and not a one of them wants to kill. Sometimes they aren't left a chioce. Next time you see one feel free to thank them for your right to ask that question you motherless turd! If you believe in your freedom of speech you won't erase or report this!
