It's because I was created by Gargamelle -- as a trap to catch the other smurfs -- instead of by Papa Smurf like the others.

Smurfette was created by Gargamel to destroy the smurfs, and was originally a brunette. Papa Smurf changed her nature with his magic and she became a blond and REAL Smurf.
However Smurfette wasn't the only female Smurf. Sasette was created by the Smurfs so they (and Smurfette) could have a sister. She's a red-headed Smurf. There is also apparently Nanny Smurf, but I've never seen her.

Gargamel created Smurfette to evoke revenge on the Smurfs. He made her from awful mean things hoping she would be the opposite of them. She was, but eventually Papa Smurf was able to turn her around and make her nice.

Smurfs procreate through egg laying. The one female lays thousands of eggs. When a smurf wishes to create new off-spring, he picks out an egg and fertilizes it. Should the Smurfette die, another Smurf will gender change to take up the role as the new queen.

all right i don't know why i know this ,but here we go.gargamel made smurfette to lead the lust stricken smurfs to him .but as every episode goes it failed and she stayed with the smurfs.know remember at the end of the cartoon series where the show introduced the three triplets 2 boys and a girl the girls name was sasset ,so their was another female smurf ,but smurfette wasn't born ,but made by a rib bone and some dirt and magic lots of magic

I feel they could not think of any more female Smurf names, so they came up with Smurfette and called it a day.

There are no actual born female smurfs.....Smurfette used to be Johnny Smurf, but he didn't like...lets say...his manhood...so he decided to get a "gender" change...thus Smurfette was born......but don't tell the Smurfs that, they don't know that...lol

In the beginning there were more but then womens lib came along and they went off and started their own colony. Smurfette stayed behind cause she was the town "freak" and wanted all the guys to herself!
No for real, I really have no idea but I used to woner that when i was a kid.
