It is being refurbished using as much of the original stone as possible. The major threat to it has been air pollution.

During the the invasion of Xerxes on Greece the acropolis was razed to the ground. After the war, and creation of the Delian League, Pericles initiated a rebuilding program that would build most of the Temples we recognize today. This would also cause a break because he would use money from the league treasury intended for defense.

They are not planning to restore it to it's former undamaged
condition but they've decided to refit stones that were dislodged but are still whole. Some repairs done wrong in the past are being corrected and some new marble is being added. The effort is a long term attempt to salvage what is still on the acropolis and stop and repair damage caused by air pollution. It will not look like new when they're finished.

Acropolis is a Greek word meaning hill. Was a hill rebuilt?
