I know! Why would they put her in there? Especailly since there are so many people who are way more talented then Madonna aren't in there. Why isn't Heart in the Hall of fame? I don't think Madonna should be in the hall of fame.

The Rock & Roll hall of fame is a joke! They should just close down the door. I agree Heart is outstanding and should be in there. Ann Wilson is ten times the singer Madonna ever thought of being. Of course I think Rush should have been nominated years ago also.

I agree with you that Heart should have been nominated first but I disagree with you on the idea that Madonna shouldn't be nominated.

Heart is just a classic band, I'd put Ann up their with Mick Jagger and Stevie Nicks as having one of the most distinct voices of Rock history. Not only did they put out great works but both Ann and Nancy really got women into Rock 'n' Roll; probably without them we wouldn't have all-girls bands like Lez Zeppelin. Heart had a much more direct impact on Rock than Madonna did obviously.

But in terms of why Madonna should be nominated she's just been to influential not only to Pop but also to Rock as well. Modern female power singers wouldn't have gone anywhere had Madonna not been there first to pioneer the style and from there there are power singers in Rock as well as those high-tempo songs and heavier use of the bass guitar as well as was featured in her earlier works. From there she's earned the nomination I think but before Heart, no.

Several artists that do not strictly fit into the rock and roll category have been inducted before. In fact, The R&R Hall of Fame recognizes artists that have been influential to rock and many blues, soul and even jazz acts have been inducted. With pop, you'll find many pop acts in there too. There's Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Elton John and The Bee Gees. Madonna deserves to be there as much as the 3 acts I just mentioned. Her career spans 3 decades now, she has influenced many artists since her debut, she has remained relevant and innovative for over 25 years, sold millions and millions of albums, helped shaped MTV and modern pop culture and even released her share of really good albums and songs. As for your definition of Rock and Roll, classic rock and roll is one thing and rock music and pop music another. Classic Rock and Roll implies strictly adhering to a hard, constant backbeat, the boogie woogie rhythm and electric guitars, a bass and drums. How many bands since 1965 are doing that? Neither The Bealtles, nor Pink Floyd or The Beach Boys would qualify. Rock and roll grew, evolved and spawned many other genres and sub genres, most of which still bare a strong relationship with their precursor, just as classic rock and roll did with blues and gospel music. Most modern rock and pop have its roots firmly planted on Rock and Roll. If the R&R Hall of Fame can recognize the music that lead to rock and roll, why not recognize the music that evolved from it? BTW, eliminating pop, rock and artists from other genres as inductees would mean that Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Muddy Waters, Etta James, Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, Crosby Stills & Nash, James Taylor, Prince, The O Jays, Leonard Cohen and many others would have to be taken out from the Hall of Fame.

Yes. Heart and Stevie Nicks should both be in there.

Madonna is 'Pop'

Edit :~

I notice everyone here is just comparing Madonna to Heart.
I also mentioned Stevie Nicks because she has been around just as long as Heart, has always been responsible for her own songs, AND is still recording albums.

Many modern female artists have said that Stevie opened doors for women in Rock {she herself nods to Janis Joplin and Grace Slick in that respect}. In 1969 she was a member of the band Fritz, who were opening concerts for Joplin and Hendrix.

Without the likes of Stevie and Ann & Nancy, Madonna would never have had her career!

Why you people complain so much about Madonna? RRHF organizer simply wants to include all the of music genre and NOT only rock and roll! Is MJ rock? How about Aretha Franklin?
Heart on the other hand is not as active as Madonna. Madonna knows how to handle her career and apply music talents at the same time, think about her upcoming records in Guiness Book of World Records 2008. A lot of many female artist and their fans ENVY Madonna because she can't be her.. as once she herselft said, ' I wont trade my life with anyone else'! So leave her alone and wait your favorit band to be nominated for the next 5 years to come! Madonna is legend, influential and an icon while your Heart cannot be found in any music news!

Yes it is a sin.
heart wrote their own songs (Until they sold out in the eighties) Played their own instruments and sang their own songs live without lip syncing. They played true rock and roll. Especially in the days of Mike Fisher , "Dreamboat Annie" and " Little Queen." Madonna changed music alright. Because of Madonna it was no longer about the music, but how you look and how you dance. And so begat the age of materialism. I think nect Britanny Spears should be in the hall of fame. And Paris Hilton. She made a record. And she certainly looks good. Video killed the radio star. Madonna killed the rise of another Joplin forever.

There is NOTHING rock about madonna. She should be in the pop music hall of fame. What ROCK station played Madonna?

The " ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME " is nothin' but a popularity contest . It BLOWS . That's why the Sex Pistols told them to go Phuck themselves. THE BEASTIE BOYS BLOW and rate even lower than the accomplishments of Madonna . We know what religious faction is most probably ahead of these awards. It is a disgrace to rock n roll. SAM THE SHAM & THE PHARAOHS were way more popular than these 3 whites-wanna-be-blacks. Somebody should drop them out of an airplane.

Oh yeah.....how old are they now.....like 65 ?

If it hadn't been for music videos and MTV, I don't think she would have even been considered for a nomination. That's because her career would have fizzled out years ago. She really is a poor singer and while some of her early songs aren't too bad, I would have liked them a lot better if someone else had sung them.
