It's like the old joke when they guy goes to the doctor and says, "Doc, it hurts when I do this (insert action here)!" The doctor simply replies, "Then, don't do that!"

I found this information for you regarding your question, I hope this helps. While you bought sterling silver, there may be small traces of nickel in the earring. See below..
Allergy, infections, and scar tissue formation are the most common body piercing problems. Many people are allergic to nickel and do not realize that inexpensive silver jewelry often contains small amounts of this metal. If you are allergic to nickel, having it in close contact with your skin produces a red, swollen, itchy, and sometimes oozing rash. Removing the jewelry and using a skin cream that contains cortisone usually does the trick.
Hopefully this helps you out some.

You might be allergic to sterling silver. I cannot wear sterling silver earrings because I have the same reaction you describe. If you really love the earrings, trying cleaning them very well before putting them on and maybe using a little Neosporin on them. Otherwise, you'll have to do what I did, which is give them away and wear earrings that aren't sterling silver.

You are allergic to the earrings and they may not be silver but steel. Earring sensitivity can be an allergic reaction to the nickel, glues or other materials used in making the earring.
Many sellers dont really know the chemical constituents of their product. You can return those if you are allergic. The only guaranteed non allergenic posts for earrings are;
1. surgical stainless steel
2. nickel free titanium steel
3. ordinary steel posts but gold plated
4. plastic

You need to buy earrings with a "surgical steel post" or ones that are for sensitive ears (nickel free).
