chance is the universes sequence that all of the universes laws must obey. Chance is what enables suprise, whether it be bad or good. chance is what makes hope possible, yet doom probable... yet hope PossiblE!!! :D.
Chance my friend... is realities priority list. It is what the world is made of.
Chance, above all else, is simply a word we thought up and affiliated to that which we cannot explain, which there is much of. It is to a certain region of the unexplainable, and undescribable. And perhaps, the universe, no intending on forming to the needs of lifeforms such as ourself, works in a way which is just simply indescribable. We cannot all nod when talking about this subject and use this as the universal symbol to tell we are speaking of "that one thing"... So we coined the term chance. Which really has no meaning, other than to extend sentences and discussion past what they once could not, now that the speaker and listener will be on the same page when speaking of it. Chance according to humans is nothing, yet everything works according to its say... This further proves that chance, just as the idea of time, and the boundaries we set for it, is nothing more than a simple human sound, meant to represent what we cannot possibbly comprehend, probably because its not meant to be comprehendable.
Without chance, thered be no wonder.
If your asking about chance while believing yourself, it to be more of a luck type of thing, do not take my words wrong. While its alluring to believe everything happens for a reason, and I would like to think that synchronization rules the cosmos, I do not. as of now, I believe chance to be simply.. Chance.
It is a ratio, if all varaibles are known. A probability.
Chance is what keeps us all living on the edge, without every trully knowing what tommorow holds for our species, or if tommorow will even show up.

That's a good darn question...Considering that we have a word to describe something that happens in everyday life that can't be described in formula... So who knows...
I did a little looking into stuff about probabilities but that kinda just assumes that you have an idea of an outcome before you actually OBSERVE the outcome. But to answer your question, chance, for me, is the "wiggle room" for physical causal events.
But I still don't know how to say and mean it, and have it make sense...
Hoped this helped!
BTW: You added some additional information on to your question, which makes it even juicier... so let's philosophize about it...
the sequence of numbers:11001,etc... have a beat, pauses, and breaks in it just like the sequence 12345, etc.
So maybe there's the inference that "chance" is just the space in between... but I think I like my "wiggle room" explanation a lot better...
Have a good one, hombre.

I'll try to be logical with this one Mark as opposed to being scientific, since I'm not a scientist.
I'd suppose chance to be the multiples of possible outcomes of a specific event.
Chance could be described in percentages, as in mathematics, or odds, as in gambling.
Chance could even be described as luck; the numbers of which, I'm sure, go off the chart.

Chance is the same as ignorance. If we don't know what caused something, we call it chance.
Nothing happens by chance because ignorance can't cause anything.
