Well it depends on what you want to do and where you want to go. If you just looking to go into theater you probably don't need an agent but if your looking to get on TV it would definitely help to have an agent to help you find auditions. You don't absolutely have to have one.

You should probably realize that it's just a teenage fantasy and you won't be able to do it. It takes a huge amount of work and talent and a certain look and and a certain charisma and a lot of knowledge and a lot of luck. And you need to live in NY or LA and they almost always hire 18 year olds to play 15. And to the first two CHILDREN who answered this, people post questions here to try to learn something. If you don't have any idea what you are talking about don't answer the question.

You need to make sure your parents are cool with what you want to do and support you all the way. You need to get into classes ASAP, then you need to build a resume beginning with theatrical roles then student and indie films. You try to get an agent once you have a good amount of training and a good sized resume, otherwise they won't bother with you. Agents are your link to more mainstream work.

For auditions check out backstage.com & actorsaccess.com

When you're ready for an agent, go to SAG.org

good luck

get parents permission, be in school plays, get a mentor, take professional class, be in more plays, learn to audition, prepare head shot and resume. look for agent. takes at least three years could take a lifetime. you dont need an agent to act, you need to be in a show to act. so get in a show.
