1447.62 multiplied by 0.23 (I hope you can use a calculator)

I first learned to solve these problems by setting up an equation to describe the situation:

23 parts of 100 is equivalent to how many parts of 1447.62?

Translated to "Math,"

23 / 100 = x / 1447.62

Then solve this equation for x. (Multiply by 1447.62.)

I like this method because it's easy to adapt to many situations. For example,
$72 is 18% of what? ( 72 / x = 18 / 100 )
$16 is what percentage of $90? ( 16 / 90 = x / 100 )
Find two-fifths of 18. ( 2 / 5 = x / 18 )

- to .23 x 1447.62 which is equal to 332.95

So if you owe a bank $1446.62 and they charge you 23% interest - when you pay them back you have to pay back the 1447.62 plus the 332.95 interest! Stay away from those types of loans!

Use the calculator that came with your computer.

Some search engines let you type equations,
such as "1447.62 x .23" (without the quotes),
and will give you the result.
