I wouldn't say it's normal because most women don't get it back so quick when breastfeeding (assuming no formula at all). It's not dangerous and doesn't mean anything is wrong though. You may or may not be ovulating so unless you want Irish twins you should look into some form of birth control.

I'm breastfeeding my 10 month old, and started my period again two months ago. I can say two things about my experience: 1) the schedule is erratic whereas before my period would come like clockwork, and 2) my cramps are the worst they have ever been, but my 10.3 lb baby gave me 4th degree tears during childbirth, so I attribute the extra period pain to the birth trauma.

I'm no ob/gyn, and I would advise you to ask yours if you have any pressing concerns, but depending on the amount of fluid, having a period while breastfeeding can be totally normal. A bit of a bummer, but totally healthy! ;) If you are bleeding a lot, or for an extended period of time, or if it is accompanied by pain that doesn't resemble menstrual cramps you should definitely check with the doctor. Because you are still pretty recently postpartum, I'd definitely consult with the doc about tampon vs. pad use, too, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck!

Some women don't get their period when breastfeeding, but some do. If it seems like a normal period then it probably is. You should ask your doctor when you go in for your 6 week postpartum checkup to make sure you aren't still bleeding from the birth. I exclusively breastfed my son for 14 months (no formula) and didn't start giving him any solids until he was 6 months old, but I got my period back about 3 months after he was born.

It could be the remainder of you lochia, or you could be menstruating. If you don't want more kids right now, call your doc and schedule an appointemnt to discuss birth control. Hormonal b/c is not reccomended this early, as it often leads to a drop in milk supply (even with the mini pill).

Are you nursing througout the night? The night-time nursing sessions are what really keeps your period at bay (most of the time).

It might be some bleeding from giving birth. Ive been exclusIvely breastfeeding my son for 4 months and ive had some light spotting twice but not a full on period. Some women will get their period while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor at your postpartum visit, if you haven't had it already. Congrats on your new baby!

You may still be bleeding from giving birth. Some unluck people do start there periods when breastfeeding but when you go to the doctor for your 6 week checkup ask to make sure.

it may be your period or it may still be your uterus contracting. It can take up to 3 months for your uterus to get back to normal size so until then it is possible to keep bleeding from the contractions. Its not common to start your period so soon when your breastfeeding but it is possible. You can ask your doctor for more details if you are worried or just plain interested! Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

It is a myth that you don't get your period if you are breastfeeding. Some women do, some don't. My lochia stopped and 2 weeks later, I got my period. It haapens. Tell your ob at your check up.

Not normal, you usually wouldn't start until you stop nursing. However, it is possible and probably nothing to be alarmed at. Do you have a 6 wk checkup? You should discuss this with your doctor.
