I used to have an old Nintendo NES and I think somewhere in my house there's a white Playstation from ages ago - I want to get back into gaming and see what the Halo and Neverwinter Nights fuss and all that is about. What's the best console to get for an adult gamer into fantasy games and no so much into sports? The console would also be used by others for general games like Mario Bros. and retro type stuff so the console would be put to good use even if I got tired of it.

I don't want to buy a lot of games, just a few that will keep me busy for a while, so the console doesn't have to be able to play every game, but have the good fantasy ones available for it. There should be enough variety for the others who will be sharing the console.

On-line playing with others is a plus, but not a must. I have DSL and a Mac at home if that makes a difference for hardware or connectivity.

Since you are just getting back into gaming, most games will be new to you. Since you like fantasy games, I'd recommend getting a good old PS2. Since the PS3 came out, the price on the PS2 has dropped significantly. And the PS2 has a great variety of games, especially fantasy RPGs.

Well you can play neverwinter nights and halo on a pc and it doesn't even have to be anywhere close to expensive.

But if you want a console for Fantasy games, I'd go with a PS2 or if you want to pay a couple hundred more then a 360. But over all the ps2 has better fantasy while the 360 has mostly sports and shooters.

Well, when you say adult gamer and Halo, I'd think Xbox 360, but when you start mixing it up with "not so much into sports", Mario, and fantasy, I get pretty effing confused... Anyway, I'd have to say Xbox 360 is the best way to go, because it does have fantasy games, it's got Halo 3, and it has a plethora of casual arcade games. Hope that helped...
