3 years ago I was 21 and just entering Airborne training. I was given 20,000 sign on bonus and a 20,000 college assistance bonus before entering. I never recieved these because soon after I went AWOL and now I guess I'm a deserter but I talked to my recruiter last week and he said I can't be considered a deserter because I never made it to my Unit. I was only in the army for 5 months before leaving (going Awol). My reasons are just excuses I believe in my heart that I am worthless for doing this and I don't deserve to be in the greatest country in the world. My recruiter has no idea what my status is. You see I was pulled over once and recieved a speeding ticket. I have bought a vehicle and I have had backround checks run on me by employers. I have a very good job and have had it for 3 years and now I am going through depression spells realizing I am a loser for doing what I did. I drank to much this weekend and got arrested for a disorderly and I still did not get arrested????????????

How many times are you going to ask this? I am counting 4 so far with answers reaching 100. Take the advice or not.... the answer will not change.

Bottomline in all answers is to contact the appropriate people and clear it up.... regardless of the circumstances. It can be done in a certain way so that you come out better in the end.

If you want to cry, need sympathy or some sort of affirmation go to the county mental health unit and let them deal with your issues. Obviously you want to sort it out and get it all taken care of so sort the the answers and see what the common denominators are.

They are.... it will catch up with you at some point later down the road. Maybe not today but it will. You will worry about this forever and that will take a toll on you. Go to the recruiter and attempt to sign again in some noncombat job. You will find out your status fast enough. And it would be a shame if you spent years worrying about this to only find that it was OK in the end.

Time to be a MAN. Just get it done because until you do you can be screwed. Unless you do that quit wasting peoples time..... your answers are on your plate. I know I sound harsh but you need a serious military or Dad style talking to. If you were my son it would be the same. I would take him myself.

Sounds like all will be fine.... just show you butt up!

So if you really want to feel like you have done the right thing, why not contact your old commanding officer. Seems to me like you are wanting to go to jail...or at least be assured that somewhere down the line you won't unexpectedly get picked up for something you felt was water under the bridge.
I won't judge you on what you already feel bad about, but I will say I'm glad I'm not in your shoes.

Hire a lawyer. Tell him you need help to make thing right.

But get a lawyer first. You'll need one to help you sort out the legal stuff and to protect your interests.
