The essay is what will happen in five years from now, based on today's current events, what's happening now in the news, must stick to politics, world news, environment, etc.
I haven't a cluse how to write that one.

Start with the top headlines of a newspaper or a major media website. Then read about the stories. Look at the political environment (dems vs. repubs) and project a 5 year outcome. Don't forget about pres elections in 08;
PS, your projected outcome is less important than you demonstrating that you have an understanding of what is going on today.

Watch the movie V for Vendetta. Yes, tell your Mom it's part of your homework. It gives a chilling view point of what will happen in the future if we continue to head in this manner. Watch the leader, it's scary how much he is like Hitler.
I believe it was a comic book about Regan in the 80's. It will get your brain flowing.

Look at controversial issues today, and make a prediction about how and whether they will be resolved in four years. E.g.,
who will be the US president
the war on Iraq
global warming
first-amendment rights
free internet use v. ads
government/commercial spying
reliance on non-renewable energy sources
relationship between former superpowers (Russia, China, UK, US)
terrorism
use of torture in interrogation
etc.
