Once upon a time, thirty-nine-years ago, we were all granted the right to arrest anyone, committing what was know as an arrestable offence. Theft; Criminal Deception;Criminal Damage;
Robbery; Wounding; GBH were all deemed to be arrestable offences, Under the Criminal Law Act 1968.

"Any person may arrest a person he knows has committed an arrestable offence as stipulated by the act."

A Police officer, however, had only to suspect someone may have committed an arrestable offence, whereas members of the public had to know.

Now all the above offences were classed as 'arrestable' because they all carried a maximum term of imprisonment of ten-years or more upon conviction.

Parliamentarians, like Jack Straw, for example, have weakened or in some cases repealled the legislation. By the simple expedience of drastically reducing the maximum term of imprisonment for committing a criminal offence, also abolished the arrestable offences and the citizen's right of arrest.

Sorry, Jack, if you happen to read this, you are a damned hypocrite, a true man of straw.

You can defend, so long as that's all you are doing. You cannot put an electric fence up around your property and you cannot set up trip wires and explosive charges to deter intruders. You cannot attack an intruder unless you are being threatened.

When someone poses a grave threat to your life, you neutralize the threat. It is far better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

OOPS, I forgot... YOUR government took away all of your guns because they don't trust their citizens to protect their own personal safety. Yeah, it probably is illegal.

its all to do with reasonable force, if you face a intruder who is not armed and you beat the **** out of him with a baseball bat then your in trouble as this does not constitute reasonable force, you can off course beat the **** out of him with your fists and claim self defence which is what i would do after hiding the bat
