No, scripts often call for things like slapping and punching, but the actors don't actually hit each other. They pretend to and any appropriate sound effects are sounded backstage. With the frying pan, you can swing towards the other other, that person will move their face in the direction of the swing and someone will play a sound effect in the back that is appropriate for the situation.

whoopie has the right idea, but lacks vocabulary.

Of course you do not do anything that would injure another player. The director should be able to work out a way that it seems like you hit the other actor.

If not..Of course not!! Your director or acting coach should train or hire a fight trainer to train actors on how to..pull punches..fake hand to the face slaps...sword fights.. any kind of lethal hitting. Playwrites know that, what they write isn't going to be taken figuatively! [hopefully]
