That's got nothing to do with Jena 6 which is about 6 on 1 fight.
The black boy should have pressed charges, did he???

because a symbol, no matter how offensive some might find it, is in a whole different than beating someone to the point they are unconscious and then some. given this severe of a beating, it could, without much imagination, have lead to permanent brain injury or even death. it comes back to the old saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me".
Please note that I am NOT saying that I agree with the charges the prosecutor has filled against the Jena 6 ... this is just another (of many) where the charges are so overblown that they would be comical if this was not so serious. The prosecutor in this case needs to removed from his position.
there is a distinction both from a common sense point and from a legal perspective between children and adults for a reason ... kids are immature and they do immature things, especially threats. as long as the threats are not likely to be followed by actions, as inapproriate as they might be, they are just a sign of immaturity and not criminal nature.
I am just answering your question about the severity of the actions of the two groups. To be honest, I also do not see a direct connection between the two events ... racial tensions might be high but this is hardly a case of one event led to the other ... even indirectly.

There was no "jumping" of anyone by white boys. There was an altercation at a party that a group of black kids tryed to crash, and there was another altercation at a convenience store involving several black kids and one white kid with a shotgun. Hanging a noose from a tree is only a civil offense that the feds would have to get involved with.
As opposed to the act of 6 black kids ganging up on one white kid, brutally beating and kicking him into unconsciousness, giving him a concussion and severe facial contusions.

hanging a noose is distasteful but not a crime, assault is.
By the way the assault came almost a full month after the noose incident. The white kids only hung nooses there was no assault. they did not lay a finger on another person. They were punished for their action within the school board. Since they did not break a law they did not get charge criminally.

If the white kid was "almost beaten to death", why did he go to a school function that night? If he was that close to dying, wouldn't he have at least been kept over night at the hospital? (maybe he didn't have insurance??)
Supposedly the boys who hung the nooses didn't break a law, according to the prosecutor. It IS Alabama we are talking about, right? No laws on the books for hanging nooses from a tree in Alabama.
there is no reason why that boy should have been kept that long in jail.

I know in my heart that the offenders need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
But your terms of white boys and black boys is innapropriate. Anger is no reason to display ignorance. Isn't that what started the whole problem in the first place?
Your question had great timing, DR. Phil is gonna do a show on it today. My are has it on CBS at 3. I hope you get to watch!

They didnt jump anyone, they hung nooses from the tree. THey didnt almost KILL someone, THAT is why they didnt get prosecuted. Yeah they should have been charged with a hate crime but what they did was not as bad as the other kids.
