We had always planned on Liam for boy's name since husband is William, and he is adamant about not having junior. His uncle is using "our" name so I am looking for alternatives. Any ideas?? Our name was going to be Liam Allen...

Why do you have to change your name when it's what you wanted?
If Liam is the name you had chosen, keep it. How close are you to his uncle anyway? Will you be around him a lot or only a few times a yr? Take all those things into consideration.

First of all, I think that you can also use Liam because Liam Allen is a wonderful name and just because there will be a cousin once removed with the name Liam, how often would they even see each other? Christmas? Twice a year? Unless they would see each other all the time, I think that you could use it any how.

Otherwise, make Liam or William the middle name.
Allen William

Of choose one of these variants:
Willem
Wilhelm
Guillaume
Gwilyn
Gilamu
Or:
Wilkins
Willis
Wilmer
Wilfred
Wiley
Wilford
Wilbert...

Otherwise, you could pair one of these other great celtic names with William as a middle name:
Owen William
Ian William
Evan William
Alistair William
Bryant William
Brogan William
Camden William
Connor William
Duncan William
Dylan William
Ewan William
Malcolm William (colm for short!)
Garrett William
Gavin William
Griffin William
Kennedy William
Kieran William
Logan William
Patrick William
Rowan William
Quintin William
Sean William
Trevor William
Tristan William

Good luck with your naming!! :)
I still think that Liam Allen is the best!

I can see why you would be very annoyed!

I think if you and your husband were planning on using the name Liam, you should stick with it. How often do you see his uncle? If you see him every day, it might become a problem, but otherwise.. it wont be a bother at all!

If the two Liams are together, the will probably be called LIam Allen and LIam (his middle name) to keep them sorted out!

Good luck with the baby!

You could move Liam to the middle name slot and keep looking for a different first name, or simply switch it to Allen Liam (if Allen also had special meaning).

Or you might consider looking into other forms of William. Assuming from Liam and Allen you have some sort of Celtic heritage, I'll avoid other obviously-ethnic choices (such as the Italian Guglielmo -- Guglielmo Allen McEgan, for example, might seem a bit odd LOL).

Gwilim/Gwillym/Gwilym - Welsh
Gwil - the Welsh short form
Uilliam/Uilleam - Irish/Scottish forms
Uilleag - Irish pet form
Willis
Wilson - literally "son of William" ;)
Williamson - ditto LOL
MacWilliam - also "son of William"
Wilcox - diminutive of William (basically "little William")
Wilkin - also a diminutive of William
Wilkinson/Wilkerson - "son of (little) William"

If you simply wanted to scrap Liam, since the uncle is using it, and look for a name with a similar sound or feel, Lachlan, Lorcan, Lonan, Logan, Lennox, Emmet, Emery, Emlyn, Abram, Graham or Graeme might appeal. ;)

Hope that helps!

You could just use it anyway. If you were already planning on using it I don't see why not to. It's not like naming two siblings the same thing (which sadly, I've seen) =)
