He was a hero and although he had a black jealous side always acted for the best. That is why harry named his third child after him and dumbledore - his two heroes.

Yes, I agree. I surprised myself by liking the last book (they'd become a bit of a chore). I loved the way the characters developed in the end, the way James and Dumbledore were so much more rounded and realistic, and especially the Snape stuff. I think maybe this reflects Harry growing up a bit, and getting a bit more perspective in his world view.

Maybe I think to much!

Sounds as though you enjoyed the book though :-).

There are lots of "heroes" in book 7. Harry, Severus, Fred, George, Neville, Dobby...the list goes on. I do agree, however, that Severus did some very brave things. He protected the son of the man he hated, killed Dumledore, the only person who ever truly trusted in him, was hated by everyone in the magical world and had to kiss up to the person he despised the most who had killed his one and only true love. He did all this at great risk to his own life. Yes, Severus was truly a hero.

Snape is an integral part of the story, but not a hero. Snape had a role to play, a very important role, but in that role he had to allow certain things to happen that a true hero would never do. For instance, he is required to sit back and watch as Voldemort's snake kills Prof. Burbage and is responsible for the loss of George's ear...

He is perfect as the double agent - flawless. But a real hero wouldn't be able to take on that role - his or her very nature would make it impossible to work for "the greater good" and allow people to get hurt or die in the name of a larger cause.
Don't get me wrong---it had to be done, someone had to play both sides, but the label "hero" does not apply in my opinion.

Yes he was a hero. in the last Harry Potter book I was surprised to find he was in fact on Potters side. Ii often wondered why he so often turned up to get Harry out of the mire when he was supposed to hate him so much. now I know why

I hadn't thought about it like that but honestly, I think you're right! Snape hated Harry's father and probably hated Harry too but gave up his pride and hatred (mostly) for the greater good of keeping Harry alive to destroy Voldemort. Good call!

He is a very flawed hero ... an anti-hero.

You've got to remember he also saved the son of the woman who he always loved - that love was more powerful than any jealousy of Harry's father.

I think so too - and he's perfect as the sexy, bad boy too. It was just the icing on the cake that he had a good heart.

I do think he's the hero though for keeping his secrets and fulfilling the obligation. And for recognising that Harry was Lilly's aswell as James'.

Good luck if ever you become a step parent!!

I disagree. I believe that Dumbledore is the real hero. Dumbledore is the one who orchestrated the entire act of getting rid of Voldemort. Snape and Harry played very important roles in the final plan, but Dumbledore was the one who made the ultimate plan.

no longer the sole hero, yet between the heroes interior the series. He wasn't the single to kill Voldemort, yet he did help Harry and associates maximum of situations. And he's an extremely good and loving guy actual. it rather is in basic terms so candy how he would desire to save loving one woman for years. And Rowling killed him in basic terms whilst i began out to love him -_-
