The seagulls are the press and the sardines are him (Eric).

It was after the infamous Kung-Fu kick on a Man United fan, when the press were all over him, hoping Man United would fire him and that the FA would ban him from playing in England.

my fave player's most famous quote. i still have to figure what it means but he mentioned this at his trial for assaulting a dimwit qpr fan. i guess it could be interpreted that as busybodies (seagulls) following cantona (trawller) to get some freebies be it genuine freebies or controversy (sardines)
