North of Richmond on Route 1 is Virginia Center Commons. It had a large theater next to it that is really nice.

West of Richmond is Short Pump Town Center. It is an "outdoors" style mall with upscale (read: expensive) shops. Not too far from it is another theater. It is a very popular movie theater and there is not much parking. I would avoid the theater if you do not like crowds.

On Parham and Quioccasan is Regency Square. This used to be the big awesome mall of the area, but it has suffered with the opening of Short Pump and Stoney Point. I like it because it has a good food court and it used to have some really neat niche stores. However, most of the niche stores have closed down. There used to be theaters close to this mall, and at one time they were the largest theaters in the area. But, the theater became neglected (Somehow half of the screens became condemned or unusable) and the theater was shut down and torn down.

Drive south on Parham Road. As soon as you cross the James River, Parham becomes Chippenham Parkway. Right there is the Stoney Point Mall. I like this mall better than Short Pump. Again, it is an upscale mall with an open to the outdoors design. There is no movie theater associated with this mall.

South on Midlothian Turnpike is the Chesterfield Town Center. A very nice indoor mall. It used to have a small theater on site, but they closed it down recently. Just down the street on Amherst (?) is another theater. This one tends to be kind of slow.

The movie theater that I like the best and attend the most is the Commonwealth 20 located off of Hull Street at 288 on Commonwealth Parkway in Chesterfield. There are a lot of restaurants in this area to hang out at until the movie starts. There is plenty of parking, even though the lot is always full. And plenty of screens.

As the poster above mentioned, there is the Byrd Theater in Carytown. $1.99 second run movies. Carytown is a lot of fun. The theater looks awesome and attracts a neat mix of college students, family members, and what I can best describe as eclectic crowd. For a really fun time, go to one of their midnight showings. I can best describe it as being similar to attending a Rocky Horror Picture Show. They will have an older, classic movie and there will be random audience participation. It's a blast!

Good luck!

Malls In Richmond Va

What are you shopping for? I can't remember the name of it, but there is a mall that's about 3-4 years old. It is off of North Broad. It is outdoor, and is designed to look like the fan. That mall was nice.

Carytown is also nice. A lot of unique stores, very arty. Carytown is a stretch of Cary Ave., btw.

Also in Carytown is the Byrd Theatre. It is the best. Leftover from the era of silents, it is hardly plush and comfy. But it is a Richmond tradition. You can't be in Richmond and not see a movie at The Byrd.
