Someone is telling me it's ok to transport it laying down but that you have to wait a while before you plug it in. Is this true?

yes, but wait 24 hrs after standing it up before PLUGING it in,
what happens is the oil thats in the compressor will mix with the coolant, and may cause the compressor to fail, if started before the oil has a chanch to flow back to it,

Your best bet it to transport upright. Wait to plug in for a day or 2

Yes wait at least a day. The freon inside the unit must settle. If you plug it in the compressor will get ruined.

You need to let it stand upright for a few hours after transporting on its side. The oil and freon need to settle back down in the compressor.

SEARS SAYS,THAT A FRIG. SHOULD BE TRANSPOTED IN A UPRIGHT POSITION. BUT, YOU CAN DO IT LAYING DOWN, BUT WHEN YOU UNLOAD IT ,STAND IT UP AND DONT PLUG IT IN FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS. THIS WAY THE FREON CAN REDISTRIBUTE ITS SELF.
