I was testing a bathroom GFCI outlet. I tripped the outlet with my GFCI tester but the outlet still signaled that it had power. But the tester indicated that everything was wired correctly. What could cause this? The outlet definitely tripped and the test button was not sticking. Is it grounded improperly or is it just a bad GFCI outlet? Thanks for your help.

I would guess, junk tester. Try plugging something into the receptacle to verify it is off (tripped).

There are testers out there that are cheap! After a while, the testers or any kind of electrical equipment will die out! The best suggestion to you is that you should plug a lamp in the outlet and manually trip it. If it still is on, replace the GFCI. Please be careful!!! If not sure of yourself, please call an electrician or if you have a friend that knows what he or she is doing! Good Luck!!!

Unless it's new I would replace it, they cost about 10 bucks. Is it worth it to have one that may or may not be working? if that thing trips for a good reason but you still have power the results could be disasterous.

trip it again and plug a lamp into it, if theres no power its the tester, if theres power then its the outlet.
