I've been music directing for years, and don't usually recommend theater as a career choice, but what I tell people who are considering it is that, if they think they could be happy doing anything else, then choose to do that instead.
That said, studying theater at university is an excellent idea and a great start on the right path to becoming a noted actor. I love the theater and took some classes while I was in college, even though I was a chemistry major. (It created quite a stir when I told my classmates!)
My recommendation...make sure you get to know as many people as possible in your area involved in theater. Try out for community shows, and if you don't pass audition, volunteer to help with some other part of the show. Familiarize yourself with ALL aspects, not just the acting part. Take tech and costume classes too, and possibly some business courses so you would know the further "basics" you would need to run an artistic business. Stay with your singing lessons, and take some dance lessons too if you can afford them, it helps!

It seems a bit too desperate and over kill to me. If you do really have a look that is marketable by an agent, he isn't going to care about your training. All professional casting is by look first, then ability, then experience (nobody cares if you went to college or had acting lessons) That being said, I have always believed that the best way to get an agent is to be very well prepared to be an actor by experience and training. But I do not recommend college or conservatory or acting school training, rather I prefer carefully selected classes to meet individual needs. And I recommend being in lots of amateur plays which will teach you the basics. Need more info? I mentor aspiring actors for free. Read my profile and write me at my aol address.

Follow your dream, irrespective of the chances (which are about 1 in a 100,000 or 0.00001%)
