tell them to RESPECT YOUR AUTHORITAAAAAAAHH!

LOL Cartman's great... Depends on the level of disrespect. From that a range of punishment starting with grounding for the least disrespect to being kicked out of the house for the most extreme. Possibly even bringing the police into it if there is physical abuse.

Edited to add: those who said there should be no punishment and that the parent should give respect to get it. Obviously is either a teen themselves or have never had children (I have not but the rules when I was a kid were very easy). If I were the parent there would be no teens disrespecting their mother because they would have learned alot earlier that they lived under my roof they lived under MY RULES. I would not disrespect their mother and I will be damned if they think they will. At a younger age I would have pulled them aside when they disrespected her and talked to them about it. Asked them if they knew what they did wrong. If they said yes then I would have them explain to me exactly what they did. Then after I made sure they understood why they were being punished I would bend them over my knee and spank them. Not hard, no bruises or anything, but just the fact that you are being spanked even if it doesnt hurt is enough to make you fully realize that what you did WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. This is how I was raised, how my dad was raised, and how his dad was raised. We all turned out to upstanding members of society. My best friend through school was never spanked and he turned out to be a druggy who is in and out of jail. This alone gives me confirmation that how I was raised was the proper way. Therefore when they became a teen they would not disrespect their mother because they would know that it would mean punishment. Enough with this hippy junk "dont spank your kids it hurts their self esteem". No. Not spanking your kids allows them to think they can get away with anything and everything.

ok...calming down...sorry about the tangent...

Nothing. It's not appropriate to punish a teen for disrespecting their mother. If you want respect, be respectable. If you want to be treated with respect, treat your teen with respect. The teen isn't your little puppet meant to gratify your sense of power, he's a human being. You might not like being disrespected, but it's not a punishable offense.

To "American" -- you are wrong. Your "obviously this is a teen with no children statement" is as erroneous as it is ignorant. In fact I am 52 and have two grown children.

Take the cell phone and smash it into itty-bitty pieces while they watch.

Or you could tell tehm they were adopted, if you're looking for a lingering, slow-burning type punishment...

Physical training or extra home work. That's what we do. And it continues until I'm tired.

No going out for 2 weeks. Like a house arrest. If they don't go out, then no phone, no cell phone.

Tell them that they have dissapointed you very much and ground them for a few days. Usually my parents telling me that they were dissapointed in me was enough punsihment.
