Has anyone been sent files over MSN instant messenger saying, "Oh accept this, it's really funny...", "Here's some pictures" etc recently? If so, does anybody know what they are? I've declined the files cause I don't want to risk it, but just wondering if anybody actually knows what these files are.

I was wondering because people that I hardly ever speak to have been trying to send me 'family photos', but I suspected they're viruses

The best thing to do is accept the files, and scan them for viruses before opening them.
HOWEVER.
If you do not know the person sending the file, do not accept. Though it could well be innocent family pictures, it could also be something much worse and it's not worth the risk.

If you don't have a virus scanner, you can buy the software from any PC store or download AVG Free from www.grisoft.com. Everyone I know agrees that AVG is the best free anti-virus software going.

Seriously, though, don't accept files unless you know the person.

NEVER accept!!!! I ended up with 4 high risk Trojans....the people probably won't even have sent them to you. The viruses can automatically go through your address book and send that message and file to everyone online. The person who sent me a file didn't even type the message.

DON'T ACCEPT THEM!!!!!

It IS a virus, I've had it :@ Not impressed!
It seriously messes up your PC, and the virus itself is stubborn and makes your PC go unbelievably slow.
Whatever you do, don't accept it and never accept anything via MSN, even if it comes from a friends PC, it can still have a virus, if she has downloaded a song for example. It is best to get your own things and scan them.

Seems this virus as now hit the states.
Do not open. I was given a warning about it a couple of months ago.. So texted my m8 who used computer for her hubbys business not to touch it.
There is a way to get rid of it, and that is to go to sytem restore and set comp for an earlier time. friend who is a mod got hit and thats how she got rid of it. You are right to ignore it.

A virus and not a nice one.

Be careful about what files you accept on MSN.
