ESP.

I was reading this book and I ca't figure out if I believe that ESP is real or not. So if you have anything to tell be if it's real or not tell me.

There have been studies on ESP, but at best they have been inconclusive, at worst outright failures. The ganzfeld studies are usually cited by ESP enthusiasts as being the best evidence, but like I said above, that's not saying much. See the links below for all you could ever want to know about the ganzfeld studies.

Some paranormal apologists might try to tell you that scientists have concluded that the ganzfeld experiments are credible evidence of ESP, but they are either ignorant or intentionally trying to deceive you. The jury was out for a while on the ganzfeld experiments, but psychologist Ray Hyman's last words on the ganzfeld experiments (dated 1996) are below:

"I concluded, and do so even more strongly now, that the autoganzfeld experiments constitute neither a successful replication of the original ganzfeld experiments nor a sufficient body of data to conclude that ESP has finally been demonstrated. This new set of experiments needs independent replication with tighter controls." (see skepdic link)

Also here Hyman confirms his doubts about the parapsychological studies such as the ganzfeld experiments:

"The most serious weakness of parapsychology is that there is a failure of replication by rivals in independent laboratories," Hyman said. "Every field has 'paradigm experiments' where you can get results. There are thousands of experiments in psychology that can be replicated, but in parapsychology there isn't one where you can get that. In no other field is there something similar." (see csicop link)

In short, there is no credible evidence for ESP being real.

Many have claimed ESP to be a real phenomenon. Admittedly, it would be a very exciting and fascinating ability were we truly capable of practicing it. However, thousands and thousands of man hours have been spent on hundreds of experiments. None of them have given any positive indication that ESP is real. This doesn't bother some people who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge their coincidences as anything but supernatural in nature.

If you are a mother or a sister or a wife.....ESP is like you phone to the ones you love .It alerts you to whats up,at the moment that it happens.when your really in tune with some or something like animals, think about it! they are there when you do nothing more than think the thought or the phone rings, from the person that you where just thinking about? Its also know as your seventh sense, intuition, and hind sight for just a few.mostly I believe....when you really listen, its amazing what you can hear from the universe, and what the universe has to say....blessed be...!

The challenge in ESP research, the study of telepathy, clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and so on is in imposing proper controls and determining when statistical significe has been achieved against random chance guessing. Newer research techniques have greatly improved these approaches, and have been properly critiqued and published in the research parapsychology community.

Many believe there is no scientific proof of ESP. This is quite plausible if one confines oneself to a specific definition of 'scientific proof'.

However those in the fields of behavioral research (including psychology and parapsychology) have established reasonable controls and measures (almost 40 years ago now) that are agreed upon by those in the mathematical community as sufficient and accurate for this purpose.

Based upon my own controlled studies, I am persuaded to suggest that what you are calling 'ESP' is not only possible but probable. In fact, in many cases it is difficult to explain phenomena in a credible controlled setting without using ESP or some latter-day derivative as part of the explanation.

Well, I'm not an expert on ESP but I think that most people who claim to have ESP are probably either lying or mistaken. Of course, it is possible (however unlikely it may be) that ESP is sometimes real. If ESP actually does exist, I think it would be very rare and would probably tend to happen randomly, i.e., beyond the person's control.

Just my two cents :)

it's still ESP if you're still a stranger to it, and if you've got hunches, guesses or doubts that seem to have prove you right, then that's ESP for you already! don't go too far yet on what the media has popularized, there's you to start with! you are a mystery yourself!

i agree with belladonnasmoon, answer, most of the time things like telepathy , esp, dont work on command, but you can pick up on vibes, thoughts on people close to you...many people have experimented with each other been away and keeping a journal, of their thoughts towards each other...i have picked up alot on other people around me, when i think of someone, they might call..one of the most recent ones, was, i was sitting at home daydreaming about going to italy, even down to the villa i was going to stay in.. my sister came over with an italy travel book half an hour later, and she had no idea i was even thinking of going to italy, the first page i opened in the book, was a picture of a villa by the sea just like the one i was daydreaming about.....few nights ago i got a bad feeling something bad was about to happen, i told my sister, the following night hoons went around smashing peoples cars, mine was hit the worse..i do pick up on vibes alot, but not on command, only when something will affect me or my family...so many have got the feeling not to drive that day, then they hear of a huge accident and they would of been involved, but not always...

Yes ... but maybe not by that term. We all have an inner ability to access knowledge beyond our day to day sphere. Its just that most of us don't use it, and most deny it .. some have no choice because it is so powerful in them.

Spiritualist, psychic, shaman, intuitive, prophet, etc etc ... how can you deny that "esp" exists?

i don't think ESP is something that you should 'believe' in it or not,it is a capabilities that some people know how to manifest, while others may need to train themselves to make it
happen, and there are who will never can fall in those categories

There has been no scientifically proven example of ESP in human history. Every anecdote is either a hoax or based on chance.
