Yes.
There's actually no specific qualification for being a business man or woman, you just have to be involved in business.

If you own a small franchise, and are looking for a more impressive (and accurate) title, you can accurately say that you're a business owner. If you've incorporated (talk to your accountant about it), you probably also have a title or two, such as President, or CEO.

Yes I believe it does.
The only real difference between opening your own business from scratch, or taking out a franchise is the level of risk.
If you start up [say a burger bar] in a town, unfortunately you are starting a business from scratch and you have to get people in and attract a regular clientele.
Nobody has heard of you so they are more likely to go to one of the big chains if they want a burger, as people know what they are getting.
If you take out a franchise with any of the big chains, they will do market research for you find you a site and the whole thing comes ready designed. Your staff training is supervised, all your packing and stationery and staff uniforms are already designed, and you are practically guaranteed to have a good business from day one.
The fact remains that although you are guaranteed customers you are still in charge of the business and are running a business. You could if you are hopeless still lose the lot, but you have a much better chance of making it with a large chain behind you.

You bet. Do you think that the guy that owns the McDonald's where you had lunch last week is a businessman? He is the one that makes the decisions, he is the one who's capital is at risk, he is the one who gets the most benefit if the business does well.
