Warm compresses work, but totally soaking in a hot bath works better, maybe you've tried already but that's what I had to do when I had a clogged duct. I tried cloth compresses but they cool down too fast, baths dont.
And dont worry you have to do whats best for you and baby when it comes to feeding. At least there are choices out there.

Like most all other posters said, it sounds like a plugged milk duct. These can turn into mastitis (breast infection) if it does not clear up on its own. The symptoms of a breast infection are flu-like symptoms...a fever, pain on the site, and a red tender breast. Continue to try warm compresses...take warm showers when possible, and try breast compressions. To do breast compressions, you use your thumb or 2 fingers and massage above the plugged duct to your aereola (not all the way to the nipple). Sometimes compressions can actually relieve the duct. The other thing you can do is breastfeed your baby just for one session...babies are usually the most effective at removing the plugged ducts. Good luck!

I have been given this with all 3 of my young ones. With the final one it replaced into so painful that i could no longer raise my arm. it could progression to masitits if no longer careful. a million. i could definately call your ob gyn. that's what I did. they might or will possibly no longer prefer to work out you. they might or will possibly no longer positioned you on anitbiotics. that's a clogged milk duct. If left untreated you will get a fever and worse. look it up on the cyber web. it could get undesirable. 2. Use heat compresses on the section. I have been given a moist washcloth and positioned it interior the microwave for some seconds to heat it to a warmth i'd desire to tolerate. the warmth will help perchance enable the milk down. After the warmth, rub down the section by skill of shifting from the backside of your breast in direction of the nipple. this could help pass any clog. i realize it hurts however the warmth enables it no longer be so uncomfortable. 3. you additionally can use iboprofin. it is going to help slightly with the discomfort.

plugged duct most likely... a lot of the time you have to get it to push out... you said recently quit - so you should have some milk- even if only a little... you might need to pump that side or do the Marmet Technique to work it out...
here's some info on plugged ducts:

a lot of the treatment options are going to be to nurse that side more frequently... since you quit, you will need to do the warm compresses to help dissolve it, but also it needs to move out by suction or a manual expression method.

Massaging it - hot pulsing showers help. It's probably just a plugged milk duct. If it starts hurting a lot or if you run a temp - it could be a breast infection and you can take antibiotics if it doesn't clear up on it's own.
I breastfed 4 babies and had this happen a couple of times. I know it's no fun! I hope you feel better soon!

Sounds like a plugged milk duct. Take a warm shower and massage from behind the knot toward the nipple to help work it out. When it comes out, it will look like a white string.
This site has a lot of info on plugged ducts and mastitis:
