Hi
I think i have responded to all your questions.. lol
squirrels do not growl. they kinda make a "grunt" "grunt" noise... but if you scare a squirrel.. he is going to run faster than ever...
If its a raccoon... you will hear a growl, a huff.. ( blowing air out nose to scare you)
and if its in your attic.. and no fast, easy escape route.. the coon will stand its ground.. like someone else said... humans are destroying all the wild animals habitat.. they are all searching for new places to live..
can u find where the animal got in... I would leave it be.. until a few hours after dark... the animal will come out.. for food and water.. hopefully you dont have an entire family up there.
a raccoon seen in the daytime.. DOES NOT mean it is rabid... I see coons out in the day ALL the time.. they get hungry and thirsty too... definately does not mean they have rabies! besides.. whatever it is.. is asleep... in your attic.... its not out and about in the daylight... anyhow... if its walking in circles and is acting confused.. then yes.. it could be rabid..
either way.. they do bite.. and its nasty... if you go up there.. id wear thick gloves and take a net.

I've never heard a squirrel growl. I have, however, heard a raccoon growl - many times. It's not that uncommon to have raccoons get in your attic and/or chimney, either. So, if I had to guess, my money would be on a raccoon in your attic. Call your local Fish & Game office or Animal Control, or use a live trap baited with a piece of stale bread or toast, spread with peanut butter and molasses.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Pretty much any animal can growl... Heck, even rabbits can growl (and scream). Raccoons are the most likely to growl, though. Squirrels make all sorts of noises.
Could be a kitten or a cat, too. Bait some live traps in your attic.

I didn't know racoons would growl but 4 people have said it so far so maybe that's what is up there.
You should contact your local animal control office. They may be able to get it out of there for you. Or maybe they will let you borrow what is called a "life trap". Sometimes they're called a Havahart trap (I think Havahart is a brand name).
It's a trap that looks like a cage. When the animal goes inside the door shuts and traps him. The animal doesn't get hurt, and then someone can let him out of the trap in the woods or someplace.

What if whatever is in your attic is neither a squirrel or a raccoon. Why would you choose those two animals to be in your attic?
My cat has gotten in my attic before via the garage. Perhaps it is a feral cat?? Cats can 'growl' when cornered.

Racoons do growl so I would be very careful cause they can be very mean. I have never heard of a squirrel growling.

Most likely a raccoon, I just asked my hunter boyfriend and he said raccoon. But one other thing if you see a raccoon outside during the day it's probably rabid. Meaning it has rabies do not go up there give it some space . If you can try to make a clearly visible path to the outside.
