Personally I thought MoveOn's ad was overboard. However, I thought the Senate's resolution to condemn it was a ridiculous political ploy, especially since Republicans had gotten away with smearing John Kerry and Max Cleland much worse than MoveOn's Petraeus ad.

Barbara Boxer tried to compromise, sponsoring a bill to condemn the MoveOn ad, but also retroactively condemn the attacks on Kerry and Cleland. Her bill was rejected in favor of the hypocritical one.

Liberals - does the fact that the Dems didn't have the spine to vote for Boxer's compromise resolution bother you?

Conservatives - how can you support politicians who will smear a war veteran one day and then condemn the smearing of a military man the next? In fact, Sen. Saxby Chambliss - who got elected by comparing war veteran Max Cleland to bin Laden and Sadaam - voted in favor of the resolution to condemn the MoveOn ad!

How can Republicans stomach such hypocritical political representatives?

I think they need to stop wasting their time and my taxpayer money on any of it and get back to passing legislation that will bring about positive change in our country! There are hundreds of issues facing the country that need their attention and none of them have anything to do with ads from non-profit organizations, offensive or otherwise.

I find it reprehensible that it ever even came to a vote. Why is it when anybody attacks a Republican, there is a HUGE to do about it, but the Republicans can smear whoever they like and it's okay? The Democrats are the more mature of the two, which I'll grant you is not saying too much in their favor.

Republicans find all sorts of ways to contradict themselves.
The Democrats are disappointing-I'll look to other political parties, myself.
And, I can not believe what a waste of time it is for them to pass a bill about an ad. OMG! It blows me away when there are so many issues they SHOULD be working on.

I don't know Max Cleland. Kerry smeared himself. MoveOn.org hung themselves with their rediculous ad against General Petraeus. Senator Boxer should do the country a favor and resign. You don't need a bill to condemn something. You just open you mouth and say, "I hate that S@%$!!"

I view the Boxer "compromise" as more of a smoke-screen. Apparently, even the Democrats in Congress saw through it.

To have to legitimate Kerry in order to let Americans speak about the ad against Petraeus is illegitimate.

And yes, folks, Congress speaks for Americans.

Sorry, not the same at all.

Petraus, isn't running for a political office; he's a soldier doing a difficult and dangerous job.

Max Cleland? Don't make me laugh, his wounds weren't even combat related, yet he tried to push himself off as a hero.

John Kerry? Another one who was totally debunked as someone who was a straw soldier at best.

There was substance to the criticism against John Kerry. Kerry did award himself medals, and prop himself up as a war hero when in reality he was somewhat of a hack and coward. MoveOn's attack had no substance, it was purely misleading and catered to the fanatical anti-war crowd.

I thought it was a bit of a waste of time to make a resolution against MoveOn in congress, however.

More Republican hypocrisy, supporting the Swift Boat LIARS while harassing MoveOn for a perfectly truthful exercise of their free speech rights.

I want Congress to work on universal health care, on crumbling infrastructure, on the scandals about spending corruption in Iraq. Instead, they piddle away time on this. I hope they pay BIG in the next election for this kind of nonsense.

More hypocrisy: you know how you can tell that not one Republican in Congress REALLY believes in God? Because if they did, they would have known they'd all burn in hell for what they did to Max Cleland.

Republican--Democrat--they all use the same tactics. It is just who gets on top at the time. Any way U look at it the ad was malicious and slanderous.
I can imagine what our enemies are doing -- LAUGHING!! Can U imagine if they had a comedy club in Iran, or Pakistan, that got a hold of all the material that the politicians use in their campaigns? We R PRIME examples of freedom of speech --right?
