Toyota spent around 20 billion yen ($170 million) between 2002 and 2005 on renovating the circuit with the help of German track designer Hermann Tilke.

I like the 100R corner, but you'd think they could come up with a better track design for that much money. The track is about as interesting as a Toyota Corolla. Is this track worth the 30 year wait?

I think the track is decent. I LOVE the nearly mile long front straight. The only drawback with that is that F1 allows blocking, otherwise you could possibly see overtaking on it-Americans pass, Europeans overtake. The rest of the track is challenging with the elevation changes and quick changes of direction. The chicane is extremely Mickey-Mouse and imo would be best served removed. Overall, Fuji International Speedway is an okay track, but nowhere near the level of Suzuka.

whan talking about costs remember that a lot of it is in foundation, drainage and logistics ( press boxex garages, on site medical building etc.) so the amount of money doesnt mean alot, and remember they are trying to "update" a track
without loosing its origional charicter, that said i still prefer sazuka,

I wasn't that impressed when I watched practice last night. That big right-hander is pretty wild though b/c of the understeer.
