go to device manager- find the "display adapter". right click it and go to the details tab. What type of card it is will be under "bus type". I'm assuming you're using windows 2000 or xp.

The AGP slot will be set back form the board edge differently than the PCI. There is AGP2x,4x, and 8X so even if you see an AGP slot you are not done yet. You need to read the manual or look up your model specifcations on the vendor website.

Presuming you're not keen on opening up your box and having a look, you have two options.
First, if you bought your pc from a big shop (e.g. Dell, time), it will have a unique serial number that you can put into their website, and they will tell you exactly what bits are in your box, and what sockets you've got.
Secondly, you can get bits of software that do this sort of diagnostic for you. One is called Sisoft Sandra, which analyses your computer and gives you far more information than you need, but tells you the answers to these questions.
The really easy way is to open up the box, look at the top of the horizontal ports, and see if there's a different one right at the top that looks like this:

You could also open the box, find the serial number of your motherboard (written on it, usually in nice big letters) and google it to find out what it has.
Hope this helps.

Do you have a manual it will tell you. You could have AGP PCI or PCI Express. You could download a program called Belarc advisor >> http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html It will help you .....otherwise open the case and look and tell us what you see or upload a pic

Hi. The specs should list it, but if you open the case you will be able to just look and see. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.viaarena.com/images/articles/3/watermarks/AGP_PCIe%2520028.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx%3FPageID%3D5%26ArticleID%3D383&h=768&w=1024&sz=212&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=NOeQ4knaSp2kQM:&tbnh=113&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dagp%2Bpcie%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN
