I have a 6 month old son who is on breast milk. I once requested my husband to suck off my breast when it was very full and my son wasnt feeding. Ever since then, he has developed a strong liking for my milk and wants a feed every night. Is it ok for adults to drink breast milk regularly after finishing feeding the baby?

Adults Drinking Breast Milk

I also question the validity of the question. However, millions of adults drink milk that comes from cows. Naturally, cow's milk is meant for baby cows, calves. However, due to slick advertising, the majority of our culture is convinced that milk is healthy andthe only way one can get nutrients like calcium and protein. (Well, people also think that meat is the other only source of protein, too.) God only knows how clean the cow's milk is (despite the added hormones in there so the cow can constantly produce milk), despite pasteurization, or the udders, or the care the cows are given.

Yet, people think it's gross that adult humans might be interested in drinking milk that is intended for human babies. Go figure. My breast milk is much cleaner than the conventional cow's milk at the grocery store. While my husband does drink cow's milk on occasion, he does seem to be in agreement that we don't feed it to our daughter so she is avoided some of the extra hormones that might be part of the cause of early puberty.

The only "Friends" episode I like is when the guys are trying to convince the other to drink the breast milk. I find it funny, though not in the way the writers' intended.

If you are OK with it, then I do not see a problem with it. If it is OK to drink the breast milk of a cow, why should it be wrong to drink the breast milk of his own species, human?

totally natural... nothing wrong with it.... really the healthiest beverage on the planet

now it can be a little kinky... perhaps why some people have issues w/ breastfeeding because they think it is a sexual act.

Personally, if my husband wanted some... or if he was ill and we were giving him some regularly as part of his probiotic diet - I'd pump and put it in a cup for him.

I have red about this, and it is perfectly fine. The article, written by a Dr., said that you do have to be careful that the adult doesn't have a cold or virus of some tyoe because it will get pased along to the little one.

yes of corse it is! My husband has cancer and i give it to him to drink to make him feel better and boost his immune system. I recently caught the flu and i have been drinking a couple of ounces a day to make me feel better. Dont listen to the rest of those asses that are being rude, it is perfectly normal and natural. If you have myspace go to http://www.myspace.com/breastfeedersunited its a page for breastfeeding moms and no one will think you are weird or be rude to you, you can ask questions like this and no one will put you down. http://groups.myspace.com/mamasmilkbar is the group where moms ask questions, you should check us out.

it won't hurt him, however...it sounds wierd as crap!!! why don't you invest $10.00 and go get a manual breast pump. It's a miracle what the industry of modern science can come up with these days. A pump that either manually or through electric pump, expresses the milk FOR you. What'll they think of next? A telephone that has only push buttons and not the dial that you have to turn for each digit?!?!?! I can't WAIT!!!

I suspect that you're just trying to rile people.

In case you're serious, they feed breast milk to cancer patients to help them get better.

it's not unhealthy no... but maybe a little odd - you could always pump if you're full.
