Major League Baseball there is the New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox.

College basketball has Duke vs. North Carolina.

And college football has Michigan vs. Ohio State, Auburn vs. Alabama and LSU vs. Arkansas … or Ole Miss … or Florida … or, Alabama.

The list goes on.

While LSU provides one of the most unique and exciting atmospheres in college sports, one thing the football program has lacked in recent years is the presence of a big-time rivalry - the single game fans and players alike look forward to every season.

Some players mark the day of the Florida game on their calendars, others the Auburn game, and others circle the day after Thanksgiving when the Tigers traditionally battle Arkansas for the Golden Boot.

Ever since LSU and USC split the national championship in 2003, Tiger fans have developed hatred for the Trojans, developing a "rivalry" based not on head-to-head wins and losses but on polling decisions by media members and coaches.

Very astute observation, Austin.

These answers can't seem to decide who is the rival, and many of them list several rivals or the entire SEC. LAME. If there was a big time rivalry, every LSU fan would have the same answer.

Well you see your problem is this: You ASSUME that LSU doesn't have a rival. You ASSUME wrong. Every team we play is a rival. They are all treated the same and we fans don't care who the Tigers play, WE HATE THEM. We don't discriminate a bit, we include all of them. And it is funny also that EVERY team we play considers us a rival as well. I guess that would be because LSU is a great team and our fans are like no other. When we are at home in DEATH VALLEY, no other fan base can come close to giving their team the support we give to ours. We are a special breed of fan and what we have can't be found with any other team game after game..they can only really support their team for one major game.

Have you ever heard of LSU vs. Auburn?!?! That has been a HUGE rival as long as I can remember. Now beginning this year I feel like as long as Bama keeps coach Nick Saban they will also be a big rival.

& as for you saying that LSU fans have created hatred for USC condoms... I think the hatred is well deserved! LSU earned the National Championship title and than had to "split" it with USC. (that move deserves hate) & another reason that the hatred is desrved towards USC is because of USC fans like you that get on here and post questions (well not evan sure if what you ever post can be considered a question) bashing LSU. Example: the "LSU fans smell like corndogs" question that was posted over and over (which if i remember right it was you that posted that "question" also)

GEAUX Tigers!

how can you ask this question when you already answered it your self?

"developing a "rivalry" based not on head-to-head wins and losses but on polling decisions by media members and coaches."

It is the media that made it a big deal so ppl would watch their TV's

Being a fan(of neither of these teams) I dont like ANYONE who plays my team. And when you have 2 teams that are in the chase for a National tittel every year how can you expect them to like each other I would want the other to loose every week!! Thats is why we are FANS. and Im not a Florida fan but untill USC or LSU beats them or wins the national championship your both looser

EXCUSE ME BUT I HAVE A QUESTION OF MY OWN!!!

When are you going to credit the actual authors of this article? People are starting to get the idea that you can make a valid argument.

All you do is take articles and then post a stupid question at the end, and act as though you thought it up. You did the same thing on one of your other questions.

LSU beat OU is the NC game. USC just beat a weak Michigan. In essence, there is nothing to be mad about. They just want people to know that the trojans were champions only on paper.

There used to be an LSU-Tulane rivalry, back when I was there (with Shaq), but now I would say Auburn and Bama for sure.

For the record, LSU does have a pretty big rivalry going with Auburn.

Our "Historical" rivals are Alabama, Ole Miss and Tulane.

Hello. LSU-Auburn. One of the most hated sports match ups.

you must be kidding.....LSU is in the best conference in college football, which produces some of the best rivalries in sports. usc meanwhile plays in an inconsistent conference without another bonafide top-10 team. every game in sec football has about 100,000 people in the stadiums alone......try getting that atmosphere in a pac-10 school outside of pasadena.

sorry but your thoughts hold no water either.
