I've worked for the NHS. Believe me they nearly all know each other. If not personally, then by reputation. They are bound by professional elitism which is taught from day 1 at med school. I was discussing my aunt's health with her GP 200 miles from my home - she needed home care and I had power of attorney. He knew my GP. My daughter (and I) had severe birth complications which could have been really nasty for the hospital concerned: my daughter's medical notes went "missing". Yes, the Medical Profession closes ranks. I have seen in-house computer systems updated to read favourably - only the head of clinic can do this - over ride the updates. I don't know that murder would be covered up, but there would be no hesitation to cover for neglect, or how often he children were checked. I only hope the truth comes out one day.

I think the bond between fellow doctors starts at university. From the outset, they regard themselves as a "cut above " other students, pride themselves on heavy drinking sessions (thus sowing the seeds of alcoholism so prevalent in their profession), and become members of the BMA rather than the NUS!!! Not surprisingly, doctors are now the most successful self-interest group in the UK....and that includes covering up for each other when they are negligent!!

You are so right !! Can you sense a tremendous effort by the media in trying to convince us that Madeleine is still alive and that therefore the McCanns are "totally innocent" ? I will only believe they are innocent when Madeleine is found alive and well. Now the focus seems to be on north Africa.... The papers today in London state that Madeleine was abducted by some African gang, bla bla bla -- The Portuguese PJ-GNR Police, of course, who seem to be the only honest party in all this, dismissed it as baloney.... They believe the little girl has been dead from the day she "disappeared".

it's called 'the hippocratic oath' which covers the information a doctor can reveal about any of their patients, usually obtained by a court order. All doctors must abide by this oath in order to practise medicine.

They used to but not anymore as all their correspondance has to be able to stand up to the law (Uk and European) and patients have a legal right to see all their records and correspondance that has passed between doctors.

Yes, they all stick together, in the medical profession it is looked upon as "unethical" to testify against a fellow doctor .

Hospital trusts are notorious for closing ranks around doctors and hanging the lower minions out to dry.
Interpret that how you will

Code? Yes they have a code. It is called probity; which means being honest and trustworthy, and acting with integrity: this is at the heart of medical professionalism.
